WARNING !! Middlewich Canal Boat hire.

We have just returned from a week with six of us on BEECH one of the Middlewich hire boats and completed the Four counties Ring.

The boat was in an appalling condition, we had their engineers out three times to attend to basic bad maintenance, leaking flooded bilges , battery problems, heater not working filthy boat/

Two of the three beds collapsed and my partner is having to visit the hospital tomorrow as a result of the chest injury's she received when she fell down next to the bed.

We advised them at the time and all they said was that there should have been blocks on the floor to stop this happening and if we had some tools we could modify it ourselves !!

As for the staff they were rude , indifferent, unhelpful and frankly B****y useless ! When we got back no one even said hello - sorry for problems etc.... we were totally ignored !!

As newcomers we enjoyed the canal, but Middlewich Canal Hire. Forget It !! We visited one Company that carried out some repairs on the boat for us, Anglo Welsh, what a difference, professional, courteous and very helpful and it wasn't even their boat !'

Who pulled the plug out ?
I think a refund would be appropriate.

Not at all happy with this holiday. From the start the bedding was wheeled from a shed to the boat in a cart  didn't look very hygienic.
The boat was not clean on the inside and we had trouble with the heating, ok I know its summer but we had old age pensioners with us who were feeling the cold at night and in the morning. When we asked for it too be fixed the man said it was temperamental and the weather 's fine so you wont really need it.

Secondly the batteries wouldn't hold charge and if you tried to use any appliances in the morning without the engine running the system would trip and have to be reset.
At one village we moored at we were told that you couldn't have the engine running after 8o'clock at night or 8o'clock in the morning so no use there. thirdly on the first day on a boat with 12 berths we only managed 4 showers and some dishwashing before the water ran dry. Had to sail much of the next day to find a water tap. Obviously the boat wasn't topped up to begin with. Had to pump out both toilets on the boat as well we were told we would be reimbursed for this but weren't.
This leads me to another complaint while we were sailing round the Cheshire ring every body we spoke to said that  we would be very hard pushed  do it in a week ie up at the crack of dawn sailing all day just to make up time not my idea of a relaxing holiday.

When you are new to this game of canal boats it's very hard to judge time allowed to next destinations as we found out to our cost on the last day. After speaking to other people who knew the route we asked were we could stop prior to getting back to middlewich for between 9 and 10 the next day. We were told that we could stop at Ackton bridge because it was the last pub and eatery spot before middlewich and then if we left the next day at seven would make middlewich for ten easy.
What with the heavy load of traffic slowing us to a snails pace and the stiff and out of order locks we rolled into middlewich 4hours late. Needless to say big argument with staff who were demanding £100.00 pounds off us.
At the end of the day a bad boat made for a bad holiday and i wont be recommending  this trip to anyone

We have just got back from a wonderful 3 hour canal cruise.
It was Our 29th wedding anniversary and thought of doing something different. Well there wasn't a disappointment in sight. The ladies were offered the office to get changed in ( as we had been out for the day and wanted to freshen up). Once on the canal boat we were seated and felt immediately relaxed, WE all enjoyed the food and the glass of Prosseco, (This should be mentioned, as it says Champagne on the info, whilst we enjoy Prosseco, IT ISN'T CHAMPAGNE!!!).
The Staff are very pleasant and polite and work hard during the 3 hour float,
In conclusion, it was a lovely experience and one to be repeated, much more relaxing than being in a restaurant, So thanks to all involved

Review of cruise & dine on the MV Romance added 25th July

I was very disappointed with this dining & canal experience booked for my husband's birthday.
The food was overcooked & the choices limited (Hungarian Goulash or Spicy sausages)... not great if you don't like spicy food. Luckily there was plenty of fresh crusty bread to fill up on.
The drinks were served warm (straight off the shelf); indeed, mine was Tesco's own-brand bitter lemon sold at a premium price!
Although I had told the company upon booking that it was my husband's birthday that day & was told "we will make it special for him" there was not even a balloon, streamer, card or a "happy birthday" in sight.
At £33 per head these were very expensive sausages & Tesco's own brand drinks. Dreadful value for money. Steer well clear!

Macmillan team building day at Long Itchington

Dayboat - Warwick Wanderer Getting Instuction.

Warwick Wanderer Dayboat Hire Date 2nd June
We had a great team building day in June 2009. Our two fundraising teams from Macmillan Cancer Support in Coventry, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire and Birmingham and the Black Country got together to plan their next big event - the World's Biggest Coffee Morning. It was fabulous - the weather could not have been better - the sun shone all day! The boat was absolutely ideal as one team were able to work away below deck (below deck ?) whilst the second crew got down to some heavy relaxation; making the odd cuppa, sorting out the navigating and even conquering the odd lock. Thankfully there was enough time for the teams to swap over and take on the other tasks in hand. Brilliant and the day has been talked about endlessly since including the odd bit of showing off to other fundraising teams across Macmillan - we are the envy of all and there is already a request in to repeat next year -hope it's available!!!

Thanks guys - highly recommended!

Howdey !

It went REALLY well thanks, everyone enjoyed themselves and had a go at steering but it soon became apparent who the Captain was and the regulars got stuck into the locks !!!  We had great weather in the morning then rain hit us at lunch so we moored up and ate onboard and sailed back through some showers but everyone came prepared and the few glasses of wine at lunch helped !!

Will deffo do it again, the little chap was really helpful and Ive kept the details for a re-run perhaps on a yearly basis.

Thanks again for thinking of it for us, it was very much appreciated by all

Dayboat Hire Date : 11th August 2008

I am writing to reiterate how much we enjoyed our family day out on the Warwick Wanderer on 11th August, and to thank you for your advice in planning our trip. Despite all but one of us being narrow-boat novices everyone was able to join in and have their turn. The children loved opening and closing the lock gates. We were also impressed by the standard of the cabin - clean and everything we needed.
Thanks again. I'm sure we will be narrow-boating again!

Thank you so much for a lovely day out on your boat. I was very impressed with the vessel and its facilities and found it so much better than other boat trips I have taken. I would recommend this boat to anyon but especially families with small children. We took three children aged 5, 4 and 2, and felt very safe to let them wander freely on the boat (lifejackets were provided). All in all we had a great day despite the rain, and are planning to hire again!
